The Light as Metaphor

light as a metaphor is a project that explores the affect light can have on the tone of an image. the computer screen, chandelier, and hallway photo all focus on the lack of light, while the stairwell, pizza oven, and tree photo focus on the abundance of light. by placing these photos next to each other, we can see how the amount of light can affect one’s photography.

Portraiture

the portraiture project consists of three portraits I took of other people and three I took of myself. the top left portrait contrasts two different personalities, the bottom right portrait emphasizes the physique and contrast of the subject by being in black and white, and the bottom middle photo highlights my photography skills through its clarity and detail. the three portraits of myself focus on the comedic side of my personality, such as when I would dress up in random outfits when I was a child or literally feeling “buried” under all my work.

The Legend in the Landscape

the legend in the landscape uses landscape photography to tell a narrative about a love triangle that takes place in a child-like environment. the miniatures being made of art-and-craft-like materials enforces the child-like theme. the natural environment is reminiscent of someone playing outside, further emphasizing that this story is seen through the eyes of a youth.

Personal Project

my personal project is about still life with a sense of unfamiliarity. by experimenting with composition and perspective, each photo becomes increasingly strange and abstract. my goal is for each photo to feel like its own little world, each with their own characteristics of color, composition, and perspective. the viewer should not know the location of the photos as that would push a specific pre-set theme. It is up to the viewer to decide what they think and feel about my photography.
